Floater Satellites: Why So Slow?

#1 Postby Hurrilurker » Sun Sep 07, 2003 10:17 pm

How come it always takes them soooo long to change the two floaters to something active? Right now they are sitting on the remnants of Fabian (Floater 1) and Henri (Floater 2). Clearly, well at least IMO, one of them should be on Isabel by now (probably #2). Those two storms are fading, and rapidly becoming less of a major threat (yes yes I know, flooding). It would be nice to have closeups of developing storms instead of dying ones. :grr: Whose decision is it to set the location of the floaters?

The person who handles the IR Floaters does not work weekends. The floaters should be adjusted by the 8 a.m. NHC Discussion.

I know that's a silly policy, but..... that's the way it is.

Well, those people have family lives too...it's frustrating, but there are other sites available (even though) they aren't the 1km resolution.

I would assume that if there was a storm (probably not an intense tropical storm) close to land on a Saturday and/Sunday the floater would be set right at the location of the system. After all, they would be following the storm at that moment.
