The center is south of the buoy or the buoy is south of the center?

Unlike previous years the more favorable instability might make for more storms defying the odds.

Maybe this goes down as an unnamed this year. NHC gets so much grief for naming short lived storms out in the open waters ....

/shrug Alyono did the analysis on it and couldn't get a number, and when the center was exposed earlier it looked rather ragged. I know TD requirements are loose, but I think 24 hours of convection and good evidence of a well formed circulation are required to call it. Tough call.

Personally, I'm wondering if shear is letting up a little bit at least. Last few hours has shown a nice blow up of deep convection ... and it hasn't been quickly blown off to the E or NE. Maybe that's just temporary but this wave definitely has some incredible definition for its location well east of the islands this time of year.

Wow what an impressive wave for this time of year I must say. Despite the marginal SSTs and high shear it is still fighting through it with deep convection and a vigorous circulation quite apparent on vis loops, and also Andrea organized more than we expected despite the dry air and shear.

If this is any indication of what is to come this season, we could be in for a long one.
