Yes, Isabel is a U.S. threat. Which means the possibility exists that Isabel could impact the U.S. There are many days to monitor the storm, and things certainly could change. But I am keeping an eye on this one.

folks are making interesting points about a Florida hit. The important thing is to be ready, have your hurricane kits in place, and pay ATTENTION! The entire state of Florida has been saturated this summer, so even the prelude of a hurricane will make evacuations sticky. Flooding is a given but may be even more of a preliminary issue since things are already soaked and even a sponge can only soak up so much water. So when the authorities say go, then by all means GO.

Some other folks have been talking about prepping. One thing we have done is to partially fill two liter soda bottles with water and put them in the freezer so there's a way to keep things cold and you have fresh water too.

There is a chance that Isabel slows enough that the NW turn you see on that model graphic occurs out east of FL. Although right now the bets are hedging on a later turn. There will be a front coming across the CONUS come early next week with a low expected to form in the Rockies and head for the Great Lakes. The problem is- good likelihood the low takes most of the energy northward into Canada with it leaving the front back over MS. Valley. If this does occur than Isabel makes it to FL and even into the GOM before turning more northerly. The Atlantic ridge will be building westward in advance of this front continuing to drive Isabel westward. Stay Tuned!

This storm will need to continue to be paid very close attention especially by me and other fellow Floridians in my opinion...

Is this the 2003 "big one"? We shall see

Dean, that's a good point. She will slow and hopefully be well past her peak intensity - but probably hold onto to Cat 3/4. The front early next week is so essential. The way that plays out may dictate whether millions of evacuate :o No need to panic...plenty of time. 8-)

I have always heard that the worst case scenario for W. Florida would be a hurricane that hugged the coast going north before crossing the state around Cedar Key. It certainly got my heart pumping for a second or two when I saw the model this morning depicting that very same thing. Fortunately, we have lots of time before we know how this will play out. In the meantime, it's one eye on the tropics, during most waking hours! Not yet time to get up during the night to check. LOL. Lynn
