Good morning. Isabel remains a dangerous category 4 hurricane on the saffir simpson scale. At 5 AM EDT, the center of hurricane Isabel was located near latitude 19.1 north, longitude 45.7 west or about 1050 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Isabel was moving towards the west northwest at 14 mph. A turn towards the west is expected during the next day or two.
Maximum sustained winds are 135 mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible over the next day or two. After that, official forecasts call for a bit of weakening as Isabel runs through a cold wake left behind by Fabian. However Isabel is expected to remain a dangerous hurricane throughout the next 5 days.
Minimum central pressure is 948 mb or 27.99 inches.
