Major hurricane for EC almost a certainty

Yes, it is early. However, this is a lead pipe sinch of a major cane for the EC and quite possibly Florida. Latest mdoels maintain the ridge, and UKMET nearly has this to the NW Bahamas by Monday. This is a major hurricane for the EC, probably a 3 or a 4

I don't even make plans to go to the shore more than a week in advance- especially in Houston where the weather changes at it's own whim.

I think calling this an almost certainity is a little overdoing it- but you have good points towards not rueling the EC out of the running

Weather is a funny thing- there are so many variables involved that even on the day of the local pro-mets call for 50/50 showers... or 30% or somethign like that- there are no certainities, and no gurantees- I'll keep wishing it a fish- but even in Houston I'm packing my hurricane bag jsut in case

I'm definitely with you 110% on that statement. The pattern favors an east coast landfall. There's nothing I see that will take isabel out to sea!!! That presistent ridging north of Isabel should do the trick andkeep it on a westerly course. The Bahamas, and Florida up through South Carolina need to vigilantly keep an eye on this one!!! As I've been mentioning the past few days, there was fear that the EC sees a major hit from Isabel and everything I see points it to that direction. As they say though, stay tuned.

This does APPEAR to be a storm on a direct course for the US east coast - likely somewhere between south FL and Cape Hatteras. But we still have some time to watch Isabel. Things do change, so this is no guarantee. But it is helpful to give a heads up to those residents who may be in the path of this storm. It is better to prepare for the worst and get nothing, than to be caught unprepared.

I admire your courage to post such a statement Derek. I know how you've reacted to some forecasts that you've made before but they ended up being wrong. You wouldn't put yourself out on the line like that if you weren't 100% certain and confident in your forecasts.

That is the fear Steph. Could Isabel be the big one that east coast residents were not looking forward to? The US is definitely due for a major hurricane. If it directly impacts the east coast, all I can say is I hope it hits more sparsely populated areas than hits a major metro like Miami or let's say Jacksonville. The least populated areas this goes over, the better!!!

In the meantime there is real concern for this area for early next week and we'll just have to watch carefully. As they say, you hope for the best, but you must prepare for the worst. It's best to be prepared than unprepared HURRICANE OR NOT!!!

After talking to some people in Wilmington, I think we need to take this time and make sure our neighbors, especially newly located ones, are brought up to date on what they should have done 1 June. Here we have many studnets and they seem to think that it is just a party time. Little do they realize that they may have to leave if the school shuts down.

I would be out of here very quickly!!! I would go to my relatives up in Palatine, Illinois!!!

This is a dangerous hurricane. If peeps like to experience it that is their business. However I will be hightailing it out of Virginia. This Cane could LEVEL all the coastal cities. It will severely damage and flood Woodbridge where I reside.

GREAT IDEA TOM!!! I hope many of you all will do this, please. I know as a recent resident of So. FL I would appreciate it, (if I were there at the moment!) Don't think I need to tell my neighbors here in Mauritania West Africa!

If you "survivors" of serious storms could post your experiences & recommendations, perhaps many others in this forum would have some helpful info to share with friends, neighbors, colleagues who might end up in this dangerous storn's path.

Obviously there's lots of "official" preparation recommendations out there, but there is nothing like a personal story to grab people's attention.

Isabel is looking to be the first major hurricane to affect the Eastern Seaboard since Floyd in 1999 (although Floyd was downgraded to category 2 prior to landfall).

Imagine the damage if she struck Miami-metro area head on.
