Is Joe still hyping W GOM development and what about Isabel? Looks more and more like a SE US threat.

A direct quote: "My gut call is this is a Carolina hurricane"

However, he says that he does not want to rule out areas further south... and an east recurvature is looking less and less likely.

Joe B spent more screen real estate discussing the system that was Henri. Nothing about the gulf.

Joe's pegging the movement of Isabel to the western pacific teleconnection with supertyphoon Maemi, so a decidedly Nward turn and a nod toward a possible N Carolina landfall. Of course, Bastardi's safety valve is the mention that you still can't rule out points SE and that the track of Maemi is awfully far west into Korea! And yes, he's still hinting at Gulf development next week. Personally, I do see the ingredients coming together, a stalling frontal boundary and a NWward moving tropical wave in the western Caribbean, but IMHO it will have to start to develop relatively soon (early to mid next week) in terms of a time frame. I would think that his teleconnection theory would support a strong trough and a cold front closing the door on development or flushing out any thing in the Gulf soon after the 20th.

Yes, JB seems a bit obsessed as of late with proving his nemesis the NHC wrong on writing off Henri. Who knows, maybe he'll triumph in the end! Sometimes I think his opinions, while based on solid research and a vast knowledge of the tropics, get just a tad colored by some subconcious -removed-. Still love to read the guy tho'! He's a great source of education on the workings of weather that even the interested layman can understand. The perfect antidote to certain web-based "weather experts" that seem to believe they belong to an exclusive preisthood of shamans delving into mystic realms we mere mortals can't even BEGIN to comprehend...and AREN'T afraid to let you know it!
