Question for historians

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sat Sep 13, 2003 1:31 pm

Now that Isabel is a cat 5 again I have a question for the historians.

How many cat 5 canes in the past after being downgraded to a cat 4 haved been up again to a cat 5?

It's incredbly rare.

Allen went up and down to Cat 5 THREE times.

I literally don't think any other storm has even been up and down twice.

HOWEVER, just because the 18Z model init has 140 kts doesn't GUARANTEE the 5PM has Cat 5.

It is officially a cat 5. NHC issued a special update dclaring it a 5. Now, by 5 it may be back to a 4 due to the fluctuations

Based on the re-evaluation of hurricane Andrew, it was a 150 kt cat-5 east of the Bahamas....down to a strong 130 kt cat-4 north of Andros Island, then a 145 kt cat-5 once again at landfall near Homestead AFB, Florida.
