This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

What happens after landfall?

#1 Postby nystate » Sun Sep 14, 2003 8:22 am

Anyone have any predictions on what Isabel will do after it makes landfall? I'm in Upstate NY, and one member (I forget who it was) said Isabel would become an extratropical system and head towards Toronto...any chance that us in NY/Canada will get some rain out of this?

I'm in Upstate New York as well. This system will likely move north to north-northwest at a very fast clip once it makes landfall. The fast speed would mean a relatively short period of heavy rains, though several inches would still be possible. Winds would be more of a concern. Even up here in upstate New York, tropical storm force winds (40-70 mph) would be possible.

Likely she'll elongate out along the trof.

Very heavy (flooding?) rain
Strong winds (presuming shes zipping right along, which is typically the case that far north).
Possibility of tornadoes into PA and the southern Tier of NYS.
