...Dangerous Hurricane Isabel Is Expected To Threaten Eastern North Carolina...Virginia And The Lower Maryland Eastern Shore Later This Week...
Powerful Hurricane Isabel continues to move closer to the eastern United States... but is still at least 3 days away from threatening land. Now is a good time to review your disaster plan... and be ready to implement the plan if necessary.
Check your insurance to make sure you have adequate coverage in case your home or business is damaged by winds or water.
Have flashlights and battery powered appliances on hand in case power is interrupted. A battery powered radio is a good way to keep abreast of the latest weather and news if electricity is lost.
Keep a supply of non perishable foods and beverages that can last for several days. Also keep cooking tools and a can opener handy.
Keep extra Hygiene items on hand. If you are on medication... have extra prescriptions available.
If you live in coastal area... decide now where you will go in the event you are ordered to evacuate. If you plan to go to a shelter... you will have to make other arrangements for your pets. Storm shelters usually do not accept animals. Know your best evacuation route before the storm strikes.
Based on the current forecast track of Isabel... the threat for all hazards exists. These hazards include storm surge tidal flooding... very heavy rain... potential inland flooding... strong winds... coastal and inland areas... and isolated tornadoes. It is too early to specify areas with the greatest threat for each hazard. A small change in the track can result in big changes in the type of impact for all areas. All interests are urged to monitor the latest forecasts... and be prepared to take action if watches and warnings are issued.

Insurance?
Check your insurance to make sure you have adequate coverage? You can't buy insurance as a storm is moving toward the coast. The policy wouldn't be in effect for 30 days or more.
