What is the difference between a Strong Category 2 or a weak Category 3?
As far as damages go.

Category 2 -- Palm fronds break and fly off the trees that are bending in the wind
Category 3 -- The whole tree breaks
Category 2 -- Shingles and siding flies off
Category 3 -- The whole roof comes off
Category 2 -- Windows break
Category 3 -- The whole wall that held the windows blows away
Category 2 -- The surge is over the front steps of your coastal home on stilts
Category 3 -- You're not there to see the surge and the fact that the steps are no longer there.
Seriously, I don't know. Just basing that one what I've read on our UTMB site.

No real discernable difference between a strong cat 2 (110mph) and a weak cat 3 (115mph).. though there IS difference between a weak cat 2 and a strong cat 3. Also, damages aren't the same even for the same intensity. Things to consider are preparedness, elevation, proximity to the ocean, direction of landfall, speed of 'cane, building codes and building structure, and many others.. such as whether it's a rural or urban area. Hope this helps..
