Question about Isabel for Raleigh,N.C.

#1 Postby cman » Tue Sep 16, 2003 9:05 pm

I'm 10 miles southeast of Raleigh, N.C. 115 miles from Topsail. What's our chances?
Thanks for the info.

Winds

I just ran a wind profile on Raleigh. Came out just inside TS-force winds for 3-4 hours late Thursday afternoon. But winds could be a bit less on the west side of Isabel. As long as Isabel doesn't turn more toward you, it won't be too bad there.

First, great site! I am in Wilson, NC and have a beach home on Hatteras Island. Am I facing a double whammy? I'm seriously considering heading to the mountains for a few days.

The NHC forecast track takes Isabel about 40-60 miles NE of Raleigh...so you'll definitely see some wet and windy weather.

I doubt you'll see gusts to hurricane force, unless Isabel tracks closer to Raleigh....which is a possibility. If it tracks 50 miles to your NE, I wouldn't be surprised to see winds gusting to 50-60 mph due to the large size of Isabel...definitely something to watch closely....and listen closely to NOAA weather radio for Hurricane Local Statements for your area....especially since there is a chance Isabel could track farther west and come near or over Raleigh..which would mean wind gusts to 70-80 mph..

I also think serious flooding is a distinct possibility in your area.
During both hurricanes Hugo and Hazel, the heaviest rainfall amounts fell west of the hurricane's path inland as they passed through the Carolinas.

We're in the "yellow zone."

Good luck!

Howlin,
I don't want to be any zone! Make her go away. Darn just like a woman, she slowed down long enough to ask for directions and now she is headed our way. If it were a male named storm, then he would be lost at sea. If we all blow east at the same time, will that help? LOL
