I am very fortunate to have very experienced people with me. We will also have ALL the weather equipement you can imagine too - takes up half my luggage!!! This will be a very important study trip for us too - there are hardly any (if any at all) people from the UK who have done this before.

I've been though a few hurricanes on the coast in Wilmington, NC (Bertha, Fran, Floyd), and as far as i know there's absolutlely no chance you'll be able to get directly on the shore for the storm, although for your sake I hope you can. In fact, many people I know who were beachfront residents/property owners were arrested/ticketed for not evacuating, even 24+ hours before landfall. I wish you luck, however, as it's a truly invigorating experience (minus the tornadoes - i'm not a fan), but you'd do well to hit an unpopulated coastal area if you want the real deal and no hassle. Good Luck!!

Not a good Idea...The law enforcement people and emergency managers have enough to do as it is. Most people run from storms not vise versa.. good luck to you and those who may need to risk their lives to save you..sorry JMHO

Storm2k has a resident chaser who should be in the area. I haven't heard from him yet though so I don't know if he is going or not. If he lets me know something early tomorrow I will try and let you know something KD. He has done many storms over the years. He did Claudette this year. In fact Ch11 offered him money for his video.

Any updates from ChaserUK or KatDaddy?

I'm sure there's always a few journalists that "cover" these storms... I'm curious if there's anybody who's considering putting themselves at landfall for the "thrills" or experience of it? Kind of like bungee jumping, but without knowing how long the cord is!

I just heard that there is no mandatory evacuation in some areas because there weren't enough police to enforce it! Not a good sign for anyone who might need help, eh?
