I'm willing to guess then that the hurricane has hit Kill Devil badly- which is why Avalon pier isn't updating :o I hope they're okay!

Jim Cantore was JUST on TWC 2 minutes ago
they had trouble geting their signal up for a long time
it looks pretty bad there.
winds of 80 mph he said and parts of roofs flying through the air.

Jim Cantore says it's the Ramada Inn. Best Western has roof damage.

You've already told us that you've been through worse. We understood what you were saying the first time.

I've been through Cat 1 and Cat 4
after a CAT 4, yes, anything else seeems like a piece of cake
but, believe me, all canes are monsters and can cause damage and injuries.

Amen, to that Msbee. After a 4, I never want to re-experience. Havng said that, I'm not crazy about the thoughts of a Cat 1 or 2 either but am guessing that living on the coast, we'll both probably have some more experiences along that line.

We've all seen today what a Cat 2 can do and I fear the worst is not over yet. Best of luck to everyone along the east coast. Anxiously awaiting word from from of our storm friends in NC and VA. Lynn

Maybe not monsters, but they possess the strong ability to do lots of damage.

Msbee,
I have too respectfully disagree with you about all Hurricanes being Monsters.
Strong Cat3's,as well as Cat 4's and 5's in my opinion are"Monsters".That's not to say a Hurricane cannot inflict damage.Tropical Storms in some cases have been worse than Cat2 hurricanes.
There are exceptions to every rule.
B.T.W. I will be visiting your lovely island of St Maarten in November. :D
