Kudos to NHC

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Sep 18, 2003 2:55 pm

That was a very great forecast track that they forecasted for Isabel making landfall presisly where for many days they forecasted it would end up.I know that some were somewhat intriged because it was wobbeling more west sometimes and sometimes more to the north and because of those movements which are normal for strong hurricanes some said that maybe Florida,Georgia or SC would recieved her.But it turned out that the NHC was correct in their forecast track all the way and I think that we have to give them credit for doing that and by the way all season long those forecast tracks from the NHC haved been on target but of course some miles north or south but in general they have A+.

But in terms of the intensity forecast that is another story that they admit they are still far to be perfect.Right now with Isabel there haved been discussions here about intensity if she was more stronger at landfall than the cat 2 100 mph or it was the right call. But when they review all the data in comming weeks they may well raise the winds to cat 3 status or leave them the same 100 mph.

Yep a very good job done by the NHC and some great forecasters here on the boards such as DT, SF, Air Force Met, and a few others (ah um).....LOL
Especially with the track..................Intensity wise she wasnt as easy BUT THANKFULLY she did not stay a CAT 4 or 5 as she came on the coast!...............Like Cycloneye said it will be intresting to see what if any changes the NHC will make on Isabel!

Either way Kudos to the NHC for making yet another great call on the track of Isabel!

The improvement in track models has really helped. Also, if recent performance are any indication, they are about to get better as some xperimental guidance really performed well for Isabel, not just in terms of track, but also intensity as well

With all the Drama on the board we got the details and NHC kept the ship on a steady course even when the models might have suggested otherwise..Good stuff..they got a lot of data from Isabel and I imagine we will hear about their new 5 day forecast accuracy..

Kudos all around! Based on everything I was seeing (the models, NHC, the great mets on this and other boards), I was pretty sure of a Cape Hatteras area landfall since about Sunday night. And it came pretty close.

I'd be remiss if I didn't jump in here and say thanks to all here who did such a wonderful job in terms of predictions, providing valuable information and teaching us so much. As I stated in an earlier post, I learned more following Isabel than in all my years of being a hurricane junkie. A big thanks to all of those who were mentioned plus we can't forget Scott (and WREL) and Jetmaxx, too. I'm sure there are any more but my brain is fried from computeritis.

Of course, we are doing a post mortem as if this were all over. Yet many of our friends are still in for a rough ride in the next 24 hours or so. Best wishes to everyone and once again a big THANKS!

I agree, very good job NHC, almost as good as their Lili forecast last year which was one of the best I've ever seen (talking about just the track of course  )

As a newbie , it was a great learning experience. I've always have been fancinated with the weather and now I've found a place to learn about it. You are wonderful people ...knowledgable and CARING. Thanks! My lights are flickering. My husband has told me to get my posts in because Mother Nature has some plans for our neck of the woods. Take Care, Susan

The NHC has done a near perfect job all year. I know they will keep up the great track record.
