After Isabel what's next?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Sep 18, 2003 2:17 pm

Well we may be for a little lull in the atlantic in the next few days but the question is where and when will Juan form. There are 2 tropical waves in the atlantic but also there is a big trough that is creating not favorable conditions right now.The wave in the east atlantic actually has a surface low with it near the cape verde islands but will it has the ideal conditions to develop? It is getting late for the waves to develop that far east as climo dictates but you never know if the gates of CV will continue open until the end of september or it will close more early.Maybe we will have to focus close to home in the GOM or the western caribbean to find the elusive Juan. :)

Stepping Out

#5 Postby wxman57 » Thu Sep 18, 2003 2:55 pm

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that we still have a good chance of a major hurricane in the NW Caribbean and/or southeast Gulf in late September or into October. I still think there will be 3-4 more storms.

I agree. Think we see four/five named storms this season; 3 hurricanes; 1 intense. Think the western Caribbean will produce a biggie. Tutt low near the Eastern Caribbean may gunk up the wprks in the tropics a bit. Models hinting at SW Atlantic develop, and even a storm down the road coming off Africa??

Perhaps it will be too late for another Cape Verde system to develop. And even if it does, it wont be for another few days and at that point it will just be a harmless fish.

Agree steve that we will see 3-4 more named storms and IMO october will be an active month in the caribbean and GOM.

I've been wondering about a possibly Florida strike in October, and as of now, I am not wavering from the possibility of Hurricane Mindy (I'm picking that name because I get bad vibes off of it but it could be something else) being a big one for southern Florida later on.

Back in May my forecast was 12 named storms,6 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.
Therefore we will have 3 more named storms. :D
