Camille-like Flooding

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Fri Sep 19, 2003 11:25 pm

Spent all day on Izzy follow-up here. One particular river that runs the base of the Blue Ridge has horrendous flooding:

Many remained stranded this afternoon as the river comes down but still high. We talked by cell to 2 families stranded up along the mountain...both were here in '69 and both said Isabel raised that river faster than did Camille in 1969. The word "Camille" is sacred in these parts so it was stunning to hear people actually say that.

The area received NO where near what Camille did, but the lift on the mountains is impressive. Considering the size of Izzy's precip envelope, RA totals 2"-3" lower only 10 miles from the spine of the Blue Ridge illustrates how dangerous the ridges can be. Same thing often happens with developing Nor'easters coming up the coast.

DT gets RA
Huff gets +SN
I get nothing or a little FRZG

I'm working on an Isabel page for the web site and would appreciate anyone shipping over photo(s) from the Mid-Atlantic, esp inland. Can't pay but will give you a WeatherCenter Frisbee
