Invest 98 Model Map Up

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Wed Sep 24, 2003 5:51 pm

Still catching up from local Izzy flooding here as it's been a rugged week... but I have "98" up.

I'll probably dump this and go to "99" as runs start to come together since that is closer and of more interest.

ps...working on uploading some more local flood pix from Isabel. I've been here 11 years and this is worse than Fran...many say this rivals Camille, though on a much more localized level. Fran and Camille were more widespread...Izzy has been more severe but in a narrow corridor. Strange. After 9PM I'll have additional pix (don't look if you love Ford Mustangs). Will have a couple DES aerials and more ground pix as soon as I get time on the scanner.

Looks like the same track as Isabel but further south.

Scott, you haven't had much time to rest even with the lull in the tropics for almost a week now. I don't know what they pay you at WREL, but I'm sure it's not enough with the work you've put in.

This may be a silly question but which model was most correct on Isabel and Fabian?

Deenac I think the Euro was pretty accurate with Isabel, but I'm not 100% sure.

The EURO did quite well with Fabian and was definitely in the forefront leader with Isabel, but all the globals did quite well with Isabel even 6-7 days out. I've never seen such continuity and a general agreement from that far out from a TC in that range ... ever.

The EURO (or ECMWF) which stands for the European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasts is a global model which is run once a day 12z and only in 24 hour intervals - the public only has access for Days 1-7 and a general 500mb heights that are averaged out for Days 8, 9, and 10 (3 day average - Day 10) ...

Overall, the EC did best with both.

Inside 72 hours, the GFS was good with Isabel. All those +120 hour plots....that's just GFS jibber-jabber.
