Hurricane Juan continues to move northward and it could strengthen a bit further over the next 48 hours.
At 5 PM EDT, the center of Hurricane Juan was located near latitude 33.0 north, longitude 62.2 west or about 155 miles east northeast of Bermuda or about 800 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Juan is moving towards the north at near 9 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or two.
Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible for the next day or two before Juan becomes extratropical over the cooler waters of the north Atlantic.
Minimum central pressure is 987 mb or 29.15 inches.
Tropical Depression #16 is forecast to become a tropical storm later tonight or Saturday. The next name would be Kate.
At 5 PM EDT, the center of TD#16 was located near latitude 17.0 north, longitude 41.4 west or about 1290 miles east of the Lesser Antillies.
The depression is movng towards the northwest at near 14 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast over the next 24 hours and TD#16 is forecast to become a tropical storm later tonight or Saturday.
Minimum central pressure is 1007 mb or 29.74 inches.
