Nicholas is still a "tropical storm" at 5 PM

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I say it is a TD right now but they are the experts that know when to downgrade or upgrade and they still have it as a storm of 40 mph.

Yeah, right. Would they upgrade a low-level swirl of clouds to a TS? The NHC never can let go of a storm.

I guarantee everyone that this is a TD and I know for a fact that the QS clearly indicates a TD (one contaminated 35KT vector is not a TS make).

I don't doubt that at all, Derek ... NHC's discussion from earlier stated for the sake of continuity that it was left as a tropical storm, and probably anticipated this latest blowup of convection, in which, Nicholas is probably maintaining storm status now ... the 11 pm advisory will likely keep Nicholas as a storm now in light of the convection explosion. We all know that it's likely to die out once again, but Nicholas just refuses to go at least without a fight.

The National Hurricane Center does indeed have their reasoning on keeping Nicholas a tropical storm, when it is in fact (by definition) a tropical depression.
