On this ir loop, the low is trying to get under the thunderstorms. at the very least the low is closer to the convection that even six hours ago, and I see a hint of deep red convection in one of the "blobs." I really only see some SW shear affecting it now, but not as significantly as when Nicholas was out in the Atlantic.

Notice the southerly jet streak below the flareup ... it's getting a dynamically enhanced boost of energy from strong divergent shear, and I mean strong ... look at the way the clouds north of the convection generated area and how it spreads in a V shape outward ... those are probably some strong thunderstorm activity currently going on.
