This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Low pressure area to form over the far eastern Atlantic (Is Invest 90L)

#1 Postby CyclonicFury » Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:39 pm

Here we go. Our first shot at a named storm lasting into December in quite some time.
A non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form over the far
eastern Atlantic during the weekend. This system could gradually
gain subtropical characteristics while it moves slowly southward
through early next week.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

Maybe this one will be the lucky AOI to develop. The other two failed and slowly lost model support; only time will tell if the same fate befalls this AOI.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

The precursor area of low pressure that already exists looks pretty impressive at the moment spinning west of Portugal...

I don't think whether it will form as a low pressure area is much of a question given tremendous strong nearly universal model support but the big question is whether or not it'll be able to go subtropical off Portugal at the beginning of December. While climo and common sense say no, there is nothing climatological or sensical about this season so far, so why stop the ridiculousness now?

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

I'm surprised it is still at only 20% since the models seem to all want to develop this.
