This rain event started really 5 days ago but it was more pronnounced during the past 48 hours.
Here are some rainfall totals of 5 days :
Patillas=21.60 inches
La Plata=21.00 inches
Naguabo=19.85 inches
Fajardo=18.28 inches
Salinas=17.35 inches
Cayey=10.50 inches
Those are some of the rainfall totals that I haved seen but there are more to add to those as rain continues to fall but not as widespread as during the past 48 hours.
This rain event is compared very closely with hurricane Hortense in 1996 when 23 inches fell in Adjuntas.This event IMO was a tropical storm like landfall without wind as you can see those rainfall totals.Another thing is that that JB was right on monday when he said that Puerto Rico was going to be hittted by 20 inches of rain. I didn't believe him at that time but now I can say that he painfully for us here in PR he nailed that.
There is good news and that is no fatalities haved occured in Puerto Rico.
At this time over 500 families are in shelters in the southern part of the island,many roads are impassable due to mudslides,Many homes haved been destroyed by the rivers that haved gone out of their banks so the situation continues to be very bad in the south part of the island.I hope that on friday we can see the sun and the system goes away from the caribbean to then have the task to recuperation as quickly as possible.

Looking at the sky and the radar, I'm hoping this is almost the last of it. Just came through a white out that lasted about an hour, but it's over now. The roads weren't very bad here, but a lot of debris on the roads and our waterside road is partly under water...not good as it's the only road to that end of the island. Here on Culebra we've been very fortunate.
Also just heard from friends in NJ who have big winds and no power, in a very chi chi area...I thought it sounded way too much like they were down here!

Here in San Juan we haved seen light rain today but as I type this a heavy shower is now in Bayamon heading to Santurce so the first big shower of the day will fall in minutes.But I see the radar and there are some yellow echos that indicate heavy rain in the southcentral part of PR.

Ok...I have a question. Why, when I look at the NHC radar, does it look like we have a LOT more heading our way...but when I look at the Weather Underground radar (which I have set for Culebra but which covers all of PR and a bit more), it looks like there is barely anything coming our way? I've noticed this a few times but this time it matters more...

Those are high clouds that you see in the NHC site are high clouds that only produce light rain and I understand your question because it looks omminous there but really the yellow colors are a mix of high-middle level clouds.Where you have to look is at the radars both the doppler and underground to see the reallity of what is going on beneath those clouds.

Even if 97L doesn't achieve tropical storm status ... it's good to know that I, also gave the islands a heads up last week about the potential situation brewing (be on guard thread) ...
If 97L doesn't develop into an organized TC, it'll be a bust on that on my part, but two things that make me feel good is that
1) I saw this becoming quite a threat, irregardless.
2) No fatalities have been reported at this time (hope this trend continues).

Rainfall accumulations in the last 5 days for Guaynabo Puerto Rico are: 6.55in .
We have not recieve a great deal of rain in the north coast compare to the vast amount of rainfall in the municipalities of the southern coast (>10in). However, flooding has been a very serious problem as Luis has been pointing out.
According to radar we can still expect flooding during the rest of tonight as bands of rain are still entering the southwestern coast moving northeastward.
This rain event is expected to persist until the end of the weekend, as moisture will remain high in the area.
Hope that the Puerto Ricans members of the board are fine.

Seems impossible that it could be raining harder than it was but it is, complete with thunder and lightening and two new leaks in my roof. A friend called from the states who usually lives on St. Croix and said the Weather Channel isn't saying a word about it. I can't believe that is true and know she is in the hospital with her husband most of the day and evening. So IS that true?? (I don't keep a television) It seems a pretty dramatic weather situation to have nothing being said at all?

caribepr yesterday at :50 past the hour they showed the caribbean area but for only 1 minute and showed the radar but today NADA.

We just went through two more heavy showers...latest reports (sitting on the road with a flat tire due to debris somewhere or another and people I knew stopping - bless you Raoul!) are now quite different than yesterday, some roads blocked, others flooded out. Was going to head into town but hear it is a complete mess, so will wait awhile. Sky is brighter now - maybe maybe maybe it's over.
