Re: Poll: Which Storm will be Stronger?
Lee knows what it needs to do now. 140 - 150 kt is probably what is required to beat Jova.

"Jova: 110 kt, 950 mb"
"Jova: 120 kt, 947 mb"
"Jova 115kts/952mb"
"Jova: 120 kt, 948 mb"
Jova read this thread and got offended.

So Jova is 160/929. Lee is 160/928.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Well despite Jova's best efforts, Lee ends up attaining the higher intensity. Impressive we saw Cat 5 from both basins within 24 hours.

^unless Lee undergoes another bout of RI, I think it can be debated that Jova was *at least* as strong as Lee at their peak strength.

Even if it never recovers Lee was a slightly stronger storm.

I think you missed the point of that post lol. I'm pretty sure they're referring to the post above theirs, which mentions how it's arguable that Jova was at least as strong as Lee. I also saw a lot of people (if you look through the Jova thread) who think that Jova was 150-160kt. Shame it didn't have recon.

Officially, yes, but Jova was likely quite underestimated due to the lack of recon observations (in fact, it maintained T7.5 for like 5-6 hours during the early morning hours yesterday, which is something you only see from extremely powerful systems). Although Lee may have another chance if the shear lets up this weekend, so the debate isn't over yet.
Honestly, we may never know the true answer to this question. Two explosive intensifications in 24 hours is quite insane though!

That’s assuming that Lee will never regain last night’s strength, which I don’t see any reason to believe it can’t.

I think there’s a good chance Jova gets upgraded in post-season analysis. It was assessed as T7.5 and ADT supported 145 kt. I can see a new intensity between 145 kt (still underestimated) and 155 kt (much better).
