Non-tropical low in NW Atlantic (Is Invest 99L)

#1 Postby Teban54 » Wed Sep 04, 2024 2:39 pm

1. Northwestern Atlantic:
A non-tropical area of low pressure located a few hundred miles east
of North Carolina is producing disorganized showers and
thunderstorms. This system could acquire some subtropical
characteristics over the next few days as it moves north-
northeastward, remaining offshore of the northeastern United States.
Additional information on this system can be found in High Seas
Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.

Hey, that does mean we have 4 lemons now!

Under some pretty stout shear (obvious on satellite, 50 knots per CIMSS), but in a season where the MDR tropics are hostile, this is probably the area to watch. It has an elliptical but closes low level circulation. There is some model support for a weak low forming but it'll have a rough time under that much shear.

The other now detagged area is the non-tropical disturbance in the Gulf, it may not be closed at the surface, but it has S winds to the E and NE winds to the W.
