Just going through some old observations from Andersen AFB, Guam when Super Typhoon Paka hit back in 1997.

Here's the infamous METAR that "broke" the world record wind gust at Mt. Washington, NH. Of course, after further investigation it was determined that the FMQ-13 annemometer was inacturate at this extreme wind and was voided from the record books.

the extreme windspeed but the heavy rain that resulted in the erroneous reading.

I've seen both reports of high wind inaccuracy and heavy rain giving the erroneous reading. I'm surprised they never put that FMQ-13 through wind tunnel testing to see the accuracy. Regardless... it was windy. :D
