There were some questions about this last night in the chat room... here are the 30-year averages for tropical storms, typhoons, major typhoons (cat 3+), and super typhoons (150 mph+). The time window for this study was 1974-2003.

TS is based on storms of GTE 35KT
TY is based on storms of GTE 65KT
MTY is based on storms of GTE 100KT
STY is based on storms of GTE 130KT
