Recon?

#1 Postby Thunder44 » Mon Jul 19, 2004 2:08 pm

When do you all think they going to send a plane in the wave? It's should be close enough now. I'm suprised they haven't scheduled a flight yet, since they think this could develop soon.

They'll be getting all the data they need when it goes over the islands. Also, they don't believe it has a low level circulation. Flying a place out there now would be kind of pointless. We'll see with time...

I wouldn't expect to fly out there now. Maybe schedule one for tomorrow, in case it gets better organized.

I will send a plane if the Visible Images or Quickscat detects a a possible low level circulation which doesn't exists right now.

why not?

I've seen plenty of times when there was no indication of circulation but they sent a plane from Biloxi into the gom. It seems that when they are investigating a system in the atlantic out by the islands they wait. Maybe fuel cost are too expensive just to find out if it a td. If it were a ts or cane they would have one down there pronto :?:

all comes down to cost and who its affecting baker.. A storm in the GOM is close to the conus so no need to mess around.. Get out there and check it.. But with one east of the islands the threat is not there for the US, plus they will get all the obs they need as it passes the Isands

Bingo!! And they fly a lot of training in the GOM too and sometimes they have something to "toy" around with. This one is just too far away and too disorganized and not a threat to be destructive at this point.

It doesn't matter much if this is a td or a tropical wave, the effects will be the same. The islands know this, and there isn't any cause for concern. With the gulf its our own backyard, closer (id est, fuel costs), and more irregular.

If it holds together, there will probably be a recon once it gets into the Caribbean. If it were a strong tropical storm or hurricane closing in on the Islands, there would defintely be a recon out there, but the Islands get a lot of general tropical waves and so far that's what this one is.
