More dust

#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Jul 26, 2004 3:43 pm

TROPICAL WAVE ABOUT HALFWAY IN BETWEEN W AFRICA AND THE LESSER
ANTILLES ALONG 40W S OF 23N MOVING W 15-20 KT. THE WAVE REMAINS
VOID OF DEEP CONVECTION BUT DOES MARK THE LEADING EDGE OF A
SIGNIFICANT AREA OF AFRICAN DUST AND MUCH DRIER AIR.

Nothing new here as the African dust has been dominating the tropical atlantic for many weeks supressing convection. Will the dust go away as the peak of the season gets closer? Well normally it does fade away but let's see how in this season things evolve in terms of the dust fading soon.

SAL surges keep moving off the coast and killing each wave one by one. :(

I hate dust.

This one reason I think it's going to be a normal season, because we won't have many Cape Verde storms.

We will have our fair share of CV storms to track all the way from the COA... don't you worry. :)

rainstorm

not sure. indian monsoon has been dry, and now the east and west pac are getting active. it will be quite awhile before a wave can hold together. when the west pac is active, the dry atlantic air increases, plus there is a huge ull north of pr, acting as a big roadblock

What's with all this dust lately anyway? Seems to me that prior to the mid-1970's there were much clearer skies most of the year (at least here in Barbados).

I think the worst of it was in the 80's. Certain years back then it got so bad some days that you could hardly find the position of the sun at noon and cars were quickly covered with this fine brown stuff soon after washing.

Wow. Sure am glad the dust doesn't tend to make it this far west. :)

We have to get rid of the SAL first.

It doesn't seem to reach as far south as Guyana either. When I vacationed there a few years back, every day (so long as it wasn't raining) the sky was a very pretty deep blue.
