missing family members
hi, my name is sue and i have family members in the port charlette area that i have yet to be able to find. I have called the red cross disaster for 3 days now to see if they have found out anything which as of yet they haven't. I live here in Northern Maine and am worried sick as i'm sure other families are. not really sure what to do. They lived on Harrington drive in port charlette. I don't know if you have tried this or not, but I would try emailing a local media outlet in the Ft. Myers or Tampa area asking if they can help guide you in a more concrete direction.

Calls come in to Charlotte County from around the country. Friends and family are worried about loved ones they haven't heard from since the storm. With adrenaline keeping him going, firefighter Rob Lewandowski answers the call. "We need to check on an 85 year old lady who was last talked to on 2pm Friday," he says.
He and his crew from Station 1 drive by Punta Gorda's worst damage hoping to find what they're looking for. This time they do, but at the end of one welfare check Lewandowski found a fatality.
On the night of Charley's charge into Charlotte, these fire fighters started searching for strangers still uncertain if their own families were safe. "It's difficult to go out and know that you gotta go out and start helping everyone else when you feel like you can't even help yourself at that time," he says.
Answering the call of duty means helping any way you can including cutting down power lines. You don't have to look far to find places to help and these firefighters are answering the call one home at a time.
If you are concerned about a relative you haven't heard from, the Red Cross established a hotline to check on the well being of residents in Charlotte County. That number is 1-866-GET-INFO. (1-866-438-4636)

family found
made contact with another relative late thursday. they lived 7 miles from my family and went to check on them for me. everyone is ok,damage isn't too bad. thank you to everyone who tried to help. thank god for sites like this. prayers for everyone.
