For those who need a break from Frances for a few minutes but would still look down the road, take a look at the COA. A low pressure situated just offshore and also an impressive wave getting ready to exit. Could it be the big "I" storm?

Boy oh boy. That storm about to come off the coast of Africa is pretty impressive. Look at the size of that thing.

Yes, pretty impressive. But, that is just a wind surge and not a tropical wave per se. The tropical wave/low is further SE. When you see those huge surges, it generally means there's a vigorous low that's behind it.

I've been concerned about the low pressure center that is just off the coast of Africa by a few miles. That system has a vigorous circulation, but thunderstorms had been absent all day. Well, if you noticed, I said HAD. The system is refiring convection OVER the center as I type. It already has the pre-cyclonic shape and is ready to take off as soon as those thunderstorms become concentrated.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a system develop out of this before the month is over. However, if anything forms, it looks like there will be enough of a weakness to its northwest to pull this system in to WNW and hopefully not affect any land areas.
