Good Idea For Ice For The Potential Storm

#1 Postby Homey » Sun Aug 29, 2004 10:44 pm

I fish several days most weeks and have a need for a lot of ice. The following works good for me for fishing and would work well for your storm needs:

Purchase 2 or 3 cases (24 ea) of 8 OZ. bottled water. Freeze them now in preparation of the storm. Then when you have a need for ice, use them in your coolers. They will stay frozen longer (because of their mass) than regular crushed ice. Us them in your coolers to keep your drinks, food, etc. cold. When they do eventually melt, you can use the water to drink or cook with!

Best of luck to all with this storm!!!

Something we do here in Michigan is half fill our empty milk or juice jugs with water. Throw a couple in the freezer every day to build up a quick supply of ice.

That very same tactic kept me from suffering a heat stroke (or two) when cleaning up after Charley. When you are doing hard labor in "Feels Like" temperatures of 105-degrees plus and don't have air conditioning or cool water from the fridge (boil water alert and no electricity) to get your temps down, it helps. Oh, that and getting in the car for a little blast of air conditioning and to charge the cell phones (no land-line phones either).

I won't shill for the company I work for here, however, wherever you decide to do so, make sure you have a car charger for your cell phone with your hurricane supplies.
