need help deciding whether or not i should go home

#1 Postby TJACKOWSKI518@TWCNY.RR.CO » Mon Aug 30, 2004 6:21 pm

I am in Syracuse NY and we were planning on going home on Saturday but with the predictions of the hurricane I am undecided what I should do. Looking for some help we are from West Palm Beach, FL 1500 miles from home and don't know if we should head home early. Please Help.

You have two options. Come now and face a Cat 5, or come later and clean up. I don't think Saturday is a viable option, since the 2pm position has the hurricane 20 miles east of Ft. Pierce.

If I were you... I'd stay in NY. Just MHO.

I'll throw in my two cents...

Since you plan to travel (I assume fly) home on Saturday, and that's the day airports in all of central and south florida may be closed, it looks like you'll have to think about changing plans now. Either plan to stay where you are after Saturday, or get back by Thursday.

If you have a strong house with shutters, I'm sure you want to get home to protect it if a warning is issued for WPB. The latest you'll have to do that would be late Thursday/early Friday, on the present course and speed.

If you would be coming back to some place you couldn't stay, like an evacuation zone, then you might want to make evacuation plans from where you are now and also get back early, ready to evacuate. Fun, huh?

Good luck, hope it misses.
