Mid-Atlantic WX.com Model Map Status

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Tue Aug 31, 2004 4:17 pm

Gaston flooding wiped out a major Verison circuit station in RIC. My DSL routes there and is probably down for days. Obviously there's telco concern about what's coming with Frances.

I have been down until locating an old piece of crap laptop with dial-up and installed software so I can get maps on the site. As of 5PM Tues, the maps are updating.

The site is very slow and the MyQSL database is unstable. IT folks say it should stay online but no guarantee. Please do not continually Reload the map page...if you get a 404, I'm tapped out...come back in a few minutes.

Mesonet interactive map and our wx station aren't uploading and won't till the DSL is restored.

Sorry for the problems up here...doing the best I can to keep it going.

Thanks for the kind words

Checking the site's stats, "reloads" dropped way down tonight and MyQSL database has settled down and seems operational at reduced speed. That's very helpful.

BTW, I haven't folded my "Carolina cards"...not sold the Ridge builds all the way in and think SC is still viable. But, TPC says I'm FOS and hope y'all in Florida have preps well underway. I have email again (sorta) and can say many people well inland are as worried as you about what's coming.

Wed 7PM Update:

Our DSL line, turns out, has been destroyed by the RIC flooding.

Incredibly, I was able to get an entire new connection setup this afternoon 8-) and think I'm back getting the maps and stuff published.

NOTE: The map colors have changed and have been greatly "thinned" out. This is one of several tweaks made on the site to increase speed and cut the bandwidth issues being experienced. Now the hope is it all holds together.

Thanks for your patience...knew what this week was going to be like...it's exceeded my expectations and it's only Wednesday
