CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP & WLTX) - South Carolina officials are watching Hurricane Frances as she moves toward the Bahamas.

The South Carolina National Guard is on alert in case evacuations are needed because of the hurricane.

More than 125 South Carolina Forestry Commission employees are poised for emergency dispatch as Hurricane Frances approaches the U.S. mainland.

Sixteen four-person crews, specially trained in road clearing and debris removal, are on immediate standby. Each crew, equipped with a bulldozer and chain saws, carries enough food, water, and other supplies to be completely self-sufficient for up to three days.

Nearly 20 Forestry Commission law enforcement officers will team with SLED (State Law Enforc. Div)agents to provide evacuation assistance and security. Forestry aircraft and pilots will assist the Highway Patrol in monitoring traffic on evacuation routes.

Otherwise, I am counting on it hitting FL and visiting my sister in GA.

You betcha. People are out in force. The mayor has already had meetings discussing possible evacs (or so I've heard), even if it does hit Florida, there is too much chance that it may continue on up here. Also, with it being so nasty, it may create some storm surge this way.

The shelves are empty, businesses and government offices have been sending out "Hurricane Prep" notices and I've even seen some people with plywood.

These folks, from what I've seen, don't do this stuff unless they really think something is going to happen here. The residents did little to nothing for any of the other storms coming this way either last year or this year.
