Miami Radar Out Of Service???

#1 Postby TampaFl » Thu Sep 02, 2004 3:26 am

Miami radar has been out of service the last several hours
With Frances approaching this is not good. Melbourne NWS radar will have to track Frances. Thoughts and comments welcomed.

If they have to order new parts...there should be plenty of time to replace something. Tampa's radar went out right before Charley, but was back up in time for landfall and such.

p.s. The Doppler on Wheels (DOW radar) will also be watching this storm from a safe distance. They are waiting in Atlanta right now for a final approach. I assume they will be able to take over in case Miami isn't up in time.

The radar has been on the fritz since being struck by lightning. It's worked only on and off for more than a week.

Don Noe says Oklahoma and Texas A&N are loaning mobile Dopler to Miami NWS, so they'll have radar -- but not sure if we'll see it on the net.
