Newbie Post -- Millibars -- Lower or higher better?

#1 Postby Tracie » Thu Sep 02, 2004 6:09 pm

Forgive the newbieness, but I've never been involved in possibly 2 hurricanes in less than a month. :-) The pressure rating discussed in millibars seems to be very relevant in discussing a hurricane -- for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out what the figure really means. (Yes, I know it's a value of pressure.. ) So if a 'cane is dropping or raising in millibars, what does that mean?

Thanks much.. and stay safe!

Dropping pressure means strengthening. The pressure gradient increases thus causing an increase in wind. The opposite is true for rising pressures.
