A year ago my daughter Pebbles pointed me to the storm2k site. It was great and I left the board I was at and made this my home. I have met many very wise people who have been kind and shared the love of the weather as I do. But recently things have just been getting real hard and harsh here. Name-calling, labels, putdowns and degrading those with less knowledge, have gotten to be the norm it seems. One of the posters had to go to an extreme to ask to just even discuss the potential of the storm taking another path, because of all the flames of anyone who even hinted at it. People are feeling the need to put in their post... Please be nice... Please don't flame and such.
Now I know things are stressed as we are having a very difficult year with hurricanes coming in one after another... but in my eyes this is the time we need to be supportive of each other. Instead I have been feeling like unless you are a pro met and in exact agreement with everyone here, better not post as you are in for a long line of nasty replies.
This saddens me deeply as there is many people I really like here, but I think it is time for me to say goodbye and move on. I doubt I will find another board that has been as wonderful as this board (before all the harshness started), but I need a board where I feel I can post and not have to worry that the replies will cause me more stress that the hurricanes are already.

NCBird, dont be so sensitive. People say alot on this board because they can. Everyone on here can be just as full of it as the next guy. If you want interesting discussions with lively debate, come back. If you want to have friendly discussions about the weather, youll have to find it elsewhere. Not going to happen on the net.

...that's human nature, weather-friend, especially under stress. That will be true no matter where you try to find open minds and gracious replies...
Human beings like to be right... or at least more right than someone else. I see it in my elementary classroom all the time. Young humans learn their ego lessons very early...
Even though I do not know you, your absence will surely be my loss.
Hunkering down in Brevard County...
BTW... as well as being a science instructor, I am also an ordained Presbyterian minister. I have seen it all....

I find that all messge boards go through these phases.
I also find there are jerks on all message boards.
you have to be able to ignore the jerks.
I don't know a lot about weather but I have always gotten help from the people here.
Most of the people on this board are good people. If you fidn the board interesting and informative, then stay around and ignore the others.

This is a family enviroment board and from day one this board was created the theme was that kind of atmosphere. Here the vast majority of the members are very good people but when things get very active as they are now some not good people sneak in and try to cause trouble but the administration and moderators haved been working hard these last 4 weeks keeping the board free from those kinds of things you mention. It is your choice if you go or not but think of the big picture about how the members are helping each other bringing information in a friendly way and not having fights between members. Here plenty of information is posted by our resident pro mets who help us bringing much info as possible.

I dearly feel what ncbird is talking about, BUT!!! This Aug has been a b!tch of a hurricane month and now with Frances bearing down there are many feelings coming out of normally nice people.. The stress level is almost more than one can bear.. Just need to all take a breathe and dig alittle deeper... We all will get through it..

Ncbird - I wish that you would reconsider! The trolls and the trouble makers only really come out when there is something really big on the horizon. If you ever have a problem with a member, you should always pm a mod or an admin.
You're right, it has been hairy lately because of the stress of TWO hurricanes in three weeks. It does calm down in between.
