At this point, with her being so close to land, what is the maximum amount of restrengthening Frances could possibly do? You can clearly see an eye trying to form now, but even if it closes in and creates an eye, what is the most it could gain.

maybe Cat 3?

She's only 6 mph from a Cat 3 right now. She could easily reach it.

Cat 3 would mean CAT 4 gusts in all likelyhood. CAT 2 is bad enough

With the eyewall closing off and the SW quadrant coming back, and with plenty of warm water ahead for 18 hours or so, I'd say she could well make it back to very strong Cat 3. I think Cat 4 may be out of reach just because she's still going to have to spend some hours getting her structure back before any rapid intensification.

We'll see if that eye tightens up this evening.

Approximately 20% cat 3, 3% cat 3 or 4

A little different than that because the 12 hour is 35% chance of cat 1 which means on land.

Your right MF. I heard when you have a Cat 1,2, 3, 4 the gusts are always a cat higher. Is that true????
