How high are the clouds (?) - Planes!

#1 Postby Florida_brit » Sat Sep 04, 2004 9:40 am

Just looking at a sat. mage that somebody posted made me think how high is a hurricane cloud formation?, as the photo is just beautiful! Anyone know?

I think jumbo jets normally fly to 39, 000 feet (please correct me!) and I know the recon. planes enter the hurricane at various levels from 5, 000 to 20, 000 feet so I have read depending on strengh of hurricane (but my knowledge is very limited!).

Be the most amaizing thing to fly over the hurricane! I know all airporst are closed but can jumbo jets still fly over Frances as 39, 000 feet?

Just curious!

Commercial airliners are fine. They may divert around a hurricane just because of the turbulence though.
