Tracking further North ???

#1 Postby Terry » Sun Sep 05, 2004 2:18 am

Orlando Channel 9 Viper is indicating that Frances may actually track further north, right along the FL Turnpike. Go figure. And indications are that it is not losing much strength as of yet.

Terry - Can you explain this Viper system? Have a link? I have been wanting to read about this system for awhile. What makes the Viper system believe a North turn?

I know ppl starting using VIPER here, when it predicted Charleys turn days in advance when everyone else had it going into Tampa bay.

Yes, the reason I started paying attention to Viper from Orlando was due to Channel 8's Viper predictions on Charley. I cannot tell you a thing about the science, but it seems to me to have now "verified' on two landfalling storms. I hope others with more knowledge will comment in coming days.

Search for VIPIR RADAR on Google.

Basically, it's a 3D radar image that show the cloud heights. My local stations whipped it out for Isabel last year. It can project a little into the future, but I've been told it is only displaying a trajectory computed by another program?
