Gas situation

#1 Postby hurricanetrack » Mon Sep 06, 2004 6:21 am

Just thought I would give you all an update from HIRT.

We are stuck in Daytona Beach after taking some excellent data and video observations on Hutchinson Island. As soon as I get home to the office- I will download the data and get the video from the Isuzu to see what we captured. We had the vehicle with its 5 meter tower in the center of the eyewall and then the entire length of the eye. So we should have excellent data.

As I said, we are stuck in Daytona Beach with no gas. We took extra gas with us- but have used it up. There is limited power here and no one to operate the pumps. There are literally thousands of vehicles waiting for gas at stations all along I-95. I have even seen people following gas tanker trucks to see where they are headed in hopes of getting gas. This is truly amazing to see.

Flooding is a real problem near where I am. My Tahoe measured 11.77 inches of rain so far- and that is what fell in to the bucket- most of it was blowing sideways.

We are all safe but a little tired. Our Hurricane Landfall Project worked except that we could not get the modem to talk to the web server. So there was very little live weather data. We will work to fix that before Ivan becomes a threat- if indeed it does. All in all we had a great mission and recorded a great deal of meteorological data for processing later.

That's it for now....

Mark

Keep up the good work Mark. I have been following your web site for several years. Hopefully you will get some gas soon. I heard that some of the tanker trucks have police escorts.

Thank you again for all of your hard work. :)
