How badly will Ivan weaken over Hispaniola?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

How badly will Ivan weaken over Hispaniola?

If the NHC comes true, will Ivan degenerate into a tropical storm because of the 10,000 foot mountains?

It's not likely to go over hispanola (directly at least) any longer.

Models are trending west, and the storm is a little left of track so far.

All depends on how strong it is. If its a strong hurricane it has a high chance of surviving, now if its a weaker storm, then it will most likely complete die out.

Depends on exactly where it crosses and what angle -- if it crosses Hispaniola.

I'm doubting it crosses Hispaniola at all, but if it does it makes a huge difference where. Crossing the SW peninsula wouldn't weaken it very much. Crossing the center would tear it apart.

It might stay south of there according to some of the latest guidance. But the northern portion of this circulation could still cause rainfall flooding over haiti and the Dominican Republic.
