Martin County EOC #6

#1 Postby BPJR051 » Mon Sep 06, 2004 7:49 am

Recovery operations continue. All search and rescue is done. Very proud to say no injuries or deaths reported throughout county. No looting reported over night.

114 National Guard units here helping with LE operations.

Governor due to arrive here at the EOC at 0900 for a press conference.

On a personal note. I finally got a chance to get home last night. Have been stuck in the EOC since Friday evening. My home sustained some minor damage. We live only 200 yds from the Indian River in Jensen Beach. Had two small leaks in the roof. Most of our trees were damaged badly. Back yard fence came down. My pool is full of vegetative debris. The family is fine. For my wife and kids it was there first hurricane, and they didn't like it.

Will keep you posted on things here in Stuart and Martin County.

Thank you for the update. Glad to hear that there were no injuries or deaths. That is rather incredible, and is testimony to how well organized and trained all of the emergency services people are in Stuart/Martin County. Pleased to hear that your home survived with only minimal damage.
Since you are in Jensen, how did the old downtown survive? Also have heard a few differing stories about Conchy Joe's. One has it that the thatched roof collapsed onto the rear half. Hope to get word soon about how everything faired on Hutchinson.

Jensen

I know that the restaurant took a beating. Heard they did lose part of roof. Indian River Drive from the restaurant north to skyline was very badly damaged from surge. Half the road collapsed. Some good pix of this on tcpalm.com and gopbi.com.

The island opened this afternoon to residents only. They finally fixed the Lyons Bridge. Jensen Causway still closed due to washout.

Thanks for your informative postings over the last few days. Very much appreciated!

Glad your family survived Frances with minimal damage.

Just wondering how Hutchinson Island faired? There were/are some lovely properties towards the bath tub end of it which appear/ed to be very vulnerable to storm surge! I heard other islands lost over 10 feet of dunes along the coast but no info on Hutchiinson. Heard they lost the turtle nesting sites though which is sad.

Also echo the concerns of the old town! Conchie Joes and Crawdaddies were always top for night out!

Yes some fantastic footage! The photos of a wave crashing over a mobile home in Jensen made the front page of Fox News online yesterday and the photo with the boat crashed into Indian River Drive, Jensen photos were on the UK BBC internet site! Jensen is truely on the map!
