Why the U.S.?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Why the U.S.?

#1 Postby jes » Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:22 pm

Is there no way Ivan can go into Mexico? Why is everyone sure it is going to hit the U.S. since its still so far away.

Maybe because it's mostly in the subtropics and has a large coast area.

Beacause no one on the board lives in Mexico. Hence it's assumed (incorrectly) that all GOM storms end up hitting the US.

True ... but possible shift westward ...

Remember, Ivan is moving westward at 22 MPH ... the poleward curve will be a much wider curve (if any occurs at all) and right now, I can't find any feature that would be able to draw this into the DR area in 4-5 days ...

My prediction for this weekend:

While on vacation in Cancun, Hurricane_Lover logs in and says this is definitely a Mexico storm.
