Caravans down I-75

#1 Postby FloridaHawk82 » Mon Sep 06, 2004 5:07 pm

God Bless all of the companies and people flooding (pun unintentional) into Florida to help.

We are holed up in Macon, GA at a hotel right on I-75. The stream of power trucks, military vehicles, FEMA trucks, and tree-service trucks is staggering.

Yesterday evening we ate at an Outback Steakhouse, and 20-25 Cynergy Power trucks "caravaned" in to take a break and eat. Cynergy is based in Cincinnati, OH. We spoke with a couple of the linemen, and they said "It is an honor to come down and help Florida... it's what we do".

Gave me goosebumps.

I remember when Topeka got hit by a big Storm people from Wichita came up and helped.. it was nice. But the guy said they don't get paid enough.

I was at a steakhouse after a huge snowstorm where I used to live. It was the only place open for dinner and a bunch of utility guys came in after working for 4 days straight to get our power back on. The entire place gave them a standing ovation and I know that they had TONS of offers to pay for their meals. It was really cool. It's so nice to see people willing to help in a time like this!

Rainband (Johnathan) was saying in an earlier thread that Progress Energy from NC restored his power.

Seeing things like that makes you realize there are more than just mean people n the world! I'll never forget the feeling I got when after Charley, I was in a packed resturaunt, which wasrunning off of a generator, and we all saw on the news a convoy of power trucks coming across Allegator Alley! Everyone in the place suddenly felt a wave of releif and happiness!

I saw a power people convoy entering Pinellas over the Howard Frankland today, pretty impressive sight.

When we had the ice storm here in 2002, we had help from many power companies across the nation. I believe the power was turned on in my neighborhood by a company from Arkansas.

When it comes down to it, people in general have a good heart and are always willing to help out others. I would've had chills myself seeing the convoys.
