Unscientific landfall prediction

My vacation begins Saturday in Destin Florida. With my luck Ivan will be knocking on my condo door sometime Monday or Tuesday of next week. Isidore (I believe) paid us a visit in Destin in 2002, a glancing blow w/ 50-60 mph winds. If Ivan stays away from EGOM (unlikely) then I think he'll be smacking someone around in the Yucatan. GO west young Ivan!!

My local met here in Atlanta (Glenn "Hype It" Burns) just said Ivan will roar ashore Monday or Tuesday between Destin and Panama City. Usually his prediction would mean my vacation should be safe from Ivan but I don't know.

If someone's calling for landfall here so soon, I'm not going to get worried. On the other hand, if everyone starts saying New Orleans, it's time to start boarding up. Seems like 75% of the time New Orleans is under the gun, the storm jumps east at the last moment, and hits the coast somewhere around Mobile Bay, causing all kinds of problems for the western FL panhandle.

Seems like 75% of the time New Orleans is under the gun, the storm jumps east at the last moment, and hits the coast somewhere around Mobile Bay, causing all kinds of problems for the western FL panhandle.




:lol: I know exactly what you mean. I always say, if they say it's coming straight for us, don't worry, but if it's going anywhere around us, look out!

Me, my wife, and 2 other couples are supposed to be leaving for Destin this Saturday morning, getting there about noon. We are all pretty bummed out about this. Been planning this trip for 6 months now.

This sucks royally!

Does everyone still think its headed straight for the AL/FL border?
