We were lucky in the immediate Charleston Area ... the Strongest Winds occurred in NE Charleston, and SE Berkeley county ...
Go to my site (and use the toolbar to Hurricane Hugo Page) ...
for a lot of details about Hurricane Hugo, wind profile charts from the NHC, and other detailed information regarding Hugo ... and just WHY people in Charleston were EXTREMELY lucky ...

I got a big lesson during Hugo, I was on a boat anchored in Wappoo Cut (just south of the city), and we got WACKED. I can not imagine being in the northern quadrant in that storm..
We had a 15' Boston Whaler (our tender) in the air behind the boat. I guess it was a tornado that had it flying. The next morning the Whaler was underneath the big boat. BTW, it was a 55' Hatteras that I was on..
