Question on High Pressure and Trough in Gulf

#1 Postby CYCLONE MIKE » Mon Sep 13, 2004 6:49 pm

The trough is still slowly digging southward. The trough is pulling out, but weakening the ridge. The trough is pulling out and leaving the ridge. And the trough is pulling out and the ridge over TX and LA is building east and going to reinforce Ivan's movement to the WNW/NW. Which of these is actually happening? I see trough is pulling away quickly and the high over LA is building east. Opinions?

That trough will not catch ivan because if it did ivan will be racing right now to the N to NE out ahead of it.

Ivan may have been dawdling too much to catch this trough.

OK so he didn't catch the trough. So if the high building in from LA to the east, would that not keep Ivan moving on a more westward track blocking him from going more north?

another trough....thats why he will go north...according to the nhc..

the first trough was never forecast to grab him...just weaken the ridge to allow him to turn nw...which he did.

That is not correct. This shortwave was supposed to catch Ivan. It did not but this second trough will actually verify the forecast. Same solution different reason.
