How about Conroe and Huntington? They aren't quite as far north as DFW. (Unless you're flying...then you're better off going to those in the airport's city than on the outskirts of town)

Heck, you can also come to Galveston. WAY plenty of hotels here.

Austin and San Antonio (and little cities inbetween) are closer to Houston if you're leaving NO via I-10.
