Where can I get news?

#1 Postby becca1695 » Thu Sep 16, 2004 7:57 am

I'm here at work, can't watch TWC, and want to know what is going on with Ivan. Was there a large storm surge? Where? What did it do? What's happening with all of the tornadoes? Are there any (many) fatalities? What, who, when, where (and how)? :D

Anyways... is there a link I can use to get this info (besides CNN and Fox)? Greatly appreciate any info! Thank you in advance!

12 people reported dead right now(most from tornadoes). Worst surge was from Gulf Shores east to Pensacola. Numerous structual failures in Gulf Shores with major damage reported in Pensacola. No word on how large the surge was, but it was likely significant.

You can get the Mobile News at http://www.al.com
This is a great site and it is updated frequently.
It also has live TV feeds as well as Mobile police scanner.

Our governor said the president has signed the disaster declaration.

There are 4 major hospitals in Pensacola which suffered "major" damage, mostly to the roof areas. (This was on the news).

Mobile county did not take the biggest hit as they say that the eye actually went through Mobile bay, primarily on the Eastern Shore (Baldwin County) which includes Bon Secor, Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores/Orange Beach and Perdido.

Gulf Shores took a major hit and the damage is said to be "devastating".
ABC33/40 just reported that the Gulf Shores State Pier was broken into 3 pieces and washed away. It's gone.

Water and ice distribution is to begin soon.

There are 290,000 without power in our state as of right now.

Winds are picking up in Birmingham, which were just reported at the airport of 32mph with heavy rain.

That's about all I know for now. I apologize if any of this has been reported already.

Losing the I-10 bridge will definitely disrupt the distribution of comercial goods. I-10 is a MAJOR distribution route for goods of all kinds. I don't know how far north the detour will be, but it won't be pretty.

Depends on the condition of other bridges. If the Garcon Point and Three Mile (downtown P'cola) bridges made it through okay, then it's a 30-50 minute detour down from the Milton area, Garcon Point, along 98 and to I-110 reconnecting in Pensacola

The problem is that 98 in Gulf Breeze probably took damage.
